Palau has operated one of the more prolific themed commemorative programs since the 1990s, regularly licensing cultural and culinary subjects from unrelated nations. This piece commemorates the Reinheitsgebot, the Bavarian beer purity ordinance first enacted in 1516 — making 2016 its 500th anniversary. The law, originally issued by Duke Wilhelm IV, restricted beer ingredients to water, barley, and hops, and remains the oldest food-quality regulation still referenced in modern brewing practice.
