Liberia has no historical connection to the Normandy landings — this is a commemorative issued purely for the collector market, a practice the Central Bank of Liberia has pursued aggressively since the 1990s. The coins carry legal tender status on paper but were never intended for domestic circulation in a country whose everyday economy runs predominantly on US dollars.
