Aanvullende informatie

Liberia has issued commemorative dollar series under licensing arrangements with foreign minting firms — primarily the Pobjoy Mint and later others — since the 1970s, producing coins with no meaningful domestic circulation. This piece, struck 80 years after the October 1944 engagement it commemorates, originates from that same commercial tradition rather than any state monetary need.

The Battle of Leyte Gulf remains the largest naval battle in recorded history by number of vessels engaged, involving over 200 ships and deciding the fate of Japanese naval power in the Pacific in roughly four days of fighting.
