| Beschrijving keerzijde | A forward-facing draped bust portrait of Babe Ruth wearing a baseball cap fills the central medallion, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the facial features. The legend BABE RUTH curves along the upper border, flanked by raised dots. The birth and death years 1895 and 1948 appear at either side of the portrait within the inner circle. The epithet THE SULTAN OF SWAT is inscribed in bold lettering along the lower arc of the coin. |

Liberia's 1990s commemorative dollar program was essentially a licensing operation — the government issued dozens of celebrity and sports themes with minimal connection to Liberian history, targeting the collector market almost exclusively. These pieces were never intended for circulation and were sold directly to wholesalers and telemarketers. Ruth himself died in 1948, long before licensed sports memorabilia became the cottage industry that made issues like this commercially viable.
