| Description du revers | A massive American bison (buffalo) is depicted in left-facing profile, standing in full body view atop a raised rocky mound, faithfully reproducing Fraser's celebrated reverse design from the Buffalo Nickel. The musculature and shaggy coat of the animal are rendered with exceptional naturalistic detail and deep sculptural relief. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curves along the upper periphery, with IN GOD WE TRUST inscribed in a straight line below it in the upper field. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM appears in two lines at the lower left field, and the denomination ONE DOLLAR is incused on the rocky base beneath the bison.
