Issued to mark five centuries since Columbus's Caribbean voyages, this note was a limited commemorative rather than a workhorse circulation piece — the Cayman Islands had no direct connection to the 1503 landfall Columbus made on the islands, which he named Las Tortugas before departing without establishing any settlement. The colonial thread is real but thin, which makes the commemorative framing slightly awkward historically.
De La Rue's involvement is unsurprising; they have printed Cayman currency continuously since the Authority's establishment. P#30 is catalogued as a single dated issue with no known signature or prefix varieties of significance.
