| Obverse description | The central field features the full coat of arms of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, consisting of a shield divided into two registers — the upper depicting a rising sun over the sea and the lower a British ship in full sail — supported on the dexter by a marlin and on the sinister by a flamingo, with an elaborate helm and crest above surmounted by a conch shell. A scroll beneath bears the national motto in the legend. The circular legend 'COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS' arcs along the upper periphery, while the motto 'FORWARD UPWARD ONWARD TOGETHER' appears on a ribbon below the shield, and the date '1982' is inscribed at the bottom of the field. The design is enclosed by a continuous beaded border. |
