The Reserve Bank of Rhodesia continued issuing notes under the "dollar" denomination throughout the 1970s despite the country's internationally unrecognised status following the Unilateral Declaration of Independence in 1965. De La Rue in London printed currency for a government that most of the world officially refused to acknowledge — an arrangement that attracted considerable controversy and was eventually curtailed under pressure.
Bruce's signature appears on the earlier dates within this range. The series ran long enough to overlap with Zimbabwe Rhodesia's brief existence in 1979, making date attribution on individual notes relevant to understanding exactly which political entity was technically the issuer at time of printing.
