The Missionaries of Charity, founded by Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu — Mother Teresa — in Kolkata in 1950, had by 2010 expanded to over 4,500 sisters operating in 133 countries. Palau has issued commemorative dollars under this format extensively since the 1990s, licensing its sovereign minting authority to foreign producers targeting the collector market rather than circulation. Most pieces in this series never leave their packaging.
