Obverse description Dark blue on multicolour guilloche underprint. An intaglio portrait of King George VI in uniform is set within an oval vignette at right, flanked by elaborate lathe-work and Chinese denomination characters 壹圓 at centre. The legal tender clause and the denomination ONE DOLLAR appear in bold letterpress across the face, with bilingual inscriptions in English and Chinese throughout.

Reverse description Printed in blue on white paper, the reverse is dominated by a central oval medallion carrying the Chinese characters 壹圓 and the English legend ONE DOLLAR, surrounded by radiating fan-shaped guilloche patterns that fill the entire field. The issuer name GOVERNMENT OF HONG KONG runs across the top, and the dollar sign denomination $1 appears in each of the four corners.
