| Obverse lettering | OTTAWA EMISSION DE 1935 BANQUE DU CANADA PAYERA AU PORTEUR SUR DEMANDE UN DOLLAR UN DOLLAR |
| Reverse description | Printed in green intaglio, the reverse centres on a large allegorical vignette of a seated female figure — representing Agriculture or Prosperity — enthroned before a classical architectural backdrop and surrounded by harvest motifs, foliage, and cherubic figures. The denomination numeral '1' appears in large ornate panels at each corner, set within intricate guilloche borders. 'BANQUE DU CANADA' arches across the top and 'UN DOLLAR' is inscribed along the lower margin, with the printer's imprint 'CANADIAN BANK NOTE COMPANY, LIMITED' at the very bottom. |

The 1935 series was the Bank of Canada's inaugural issue, launched when the bank opened on March 11 of that year — Canada's first central bank, established partly in response to the financial instability of the Depression. Two signature combinations exist for this denomination because Osborne, the first Deputy Governor, signed alongside two different Governors during the transitional period of the bank's establishment.
The English and French language versions were printed as entirely separate notes rather than bilingual singles, a political accommodation that would eventually give way to fully bilingual issues. The French-text equivalent is P#38.
