备注

Keatinge & Ball relocated their operation to Columbia, South Carolina after the Union naval blockade made importing pre-printed note stock from Northern and European firms effectively impossible. By 1863, the Confederate Treasury was issuing currency faster than it could be redeemed, and the $1 denomination was something of an afterthought — too small to cover most wartime transactions, which inflation had pushed well beyond face value within months of issue.

P#49 is among the less-encountered K&B issues, partly because lower denominations were discarded rather than saved once they became economically worthless. Columbia itself was burned in February 1865, destroying remaining stock and press equipment.
