The dobla issued under Fernando and Isabel predates the more famous Excelente introduced after the 1497 Medina del Campo monetary ordinances, which overhauled Castilian coinage entirely and rendered earlier gold types obsolete almost overnight. These pieces circulated during the decade-long consolidation of the two crowns — a period when the mints at Burgos, Seville, and Toledo were operating under inconsistent supervision, producing notable variation in flan preparation and die alignment across facilities.
Cal#24 distinguishes this type within Calicó's broader sequence for Fernando and Isabel gold. Burgos mint examples are the most frequently encountered.
