Disney Dollars were legal tender substitutes redeemable at face value within Disney parks and resorts, first introduced in 1987. The 1991 series was among the early runs before the program expanded to include multiple denominations and rotating designs through the 1990s and 2000s. Though privately issued and never legal currency in any statutory sense, the notes were produced on cotton-blend paper and designed with deliberate anti-counterfeiting features — Disney was sufficiently concerned about forgery within its own parks to engineer the stock accordingly.

The program was quietly discontinued in May 2016, with no official announcement. Unredeemed notes remain valid for exchange at Disney properties, which technically keeps every surviving example in a state of perpetual potential circulation.
