Obverse description Central field occupied by multiple horizontal lines of Kufic Arabic script arranged in concentric registers, containing the Islamic declaration of faith (Shahada) and the name and title of the Buyid ruler Abu al-Husayn (Sharaf al-Dawla), son of Adud al-Dawla, along with his honorific Taj al-Milla. The legends read: 'La ilaha ill-Allah wahdahu la sharika lahu / Abu al-Husayn ibn Adud al-Dawla wa Taj al-Milla.' The coin is struck on an irregular flan with a plain inner border and a rope or pellet outer border typical of Buyid silver dirhams.
