| Obverse description | Irregular flan bearing a multi-line Arabic inscription in Naskh script arranged across the field, recording the name and titles of the ruler Sayf al-Din Shahinshah. The lettering is boldly struck in relief against a flat, undecorated field, typical of Anatolian Artuqid and Mengüjekid copper coinage of the 12th century. No border or decorative frame is present, and the legend fills the available surface to the coin's irregular edge. |

The Mengüjekids were one of the smaller Anatolian beyliks that emerged following the Seljuk fragmentation after Manzikert, controlling a mountainous enclave around Divrigi in what is now eastern Turkey. Shahinshah's reign falls within the dynasty's most architecturally ambitious period — the Great Mosque and hospital complex at Divrigi, completed by his descendants in 1228, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. His copper dirhams circulated in a landlocked region with limited trade access, which kept the local economy heavily reliant on small-denomination copper rather than silver.
