Obverse description Central field contains a multi-line Arabic religious inscription arranged in four horizontal lines within a single circular border, reading the Shahada and the mint formula. An outer marginal legend encircles the central field, carrying the mint and date formula recording the striking at Shash in the year 391 AH. The coin is struck on an irregular flan typical of Qarakhanid hammered silver dirhams, with visible flan cracks and patchy green silver corrosion. The script is angular early Kufic, characteristic of Central Asian Islamic coinage of the late fourth century AH. The overall design follows the epigraphic-only format inherited from Abbasid monetary tradition.
