Obverse description Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic Kufic legend arranged in horizontal registers within a single circular border. The inscriptions, typical of Abbasid-influenced Islamic coinage, carry the shahada and additional religious formulae. A marginal legend in cursive Arabic script runs continuously around the outer periphery between two concentric linear borders. The flan is irregularly shaped, as characteristic of hammered medieval Islamic dirhams, with some weakness in the strike at the margins.
