The "Year of Zayed" designation commemorated the centenary of the birth of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founding president of the UAE and ruler of Abu Dhabi from 1966 until his death in 2004. The Central Bank issued several collector and circulation pieces throughout 2018 under this theme, making KM#120 one of multiple dirham types released that year rather than a singular commemorative strike.
