Issued to commemorate Fatima bint Mubarak, wife of UAE founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who had died the previous year in November 2004. The "Mother of the Nation" title reflects her active public role in women's education and social welfare programs — unusual visibility for a Gulf state consort at that time. The coin appeared during the national mourning period that followed Zayed's death, when the UAE minted several commemorative pieces honoring the founding generation.
