Reverse description Central field bears a four-line Arabic Kufic inscription within a plain inner circle, with a small star ornament positioned below the lowermost line of text. The legends reference the Abbasid caliph and the Saffarid ruler Khalaf b. Ahmad, following the standard hierarchical formula of contemporary Islamic silver dirhams. A continuous marginal legend in Arabic Kufic script encircles the inner field, separated by a raised border ring, and contains the mint and date formula. The overall style and layout conform to the Abbasid epigraphic dirham tradition as adapted by the Saffarid dynasty.
