Obverse description Central field bears the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) in multiple lines of Kufic Arabic script: 'La ilaha illa Allah / Muhammad rasul Allah'. The central inscription is surrounded by a circular marginal legend in Arabic containing the Quranic verse (Quran 9:33) attesting to the mission of the Prophet, all within a linear border. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and bold, angular Kufic lettering typical of hammered Sallarid silver dirhams of the 4th century AH.
