| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic Kufic inscription arranged in four horizontal registers within a plain linear border. The shahada (declaration of faith) is presented in the upper registers reading 'There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner,' followed by the Quranic verse attesting to the prophethood of Muhammad. The script is characteristic of late Andalusian hammered coinage, with angular Kufic letterforms. The flan is irregular and shows typical die-struck relief with flat fields consistent with billon taifa-period dirhams. |
