| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a three-line Arabic Kufic inscription arranged horizontally within a plain inner circle: the Shahada in two lines reading 'There is no god but Allah / Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah', followed by the ruler's laqab 'Al-Mu'tasim bi-Allah' in the lower register. The legends are boldly struck in raised relief against a flat field. A circular border with pellet or dot ornaments encloses the central inscription area. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped at the margins, consistent with hammered Taifa-period coinage. |
