| Obverse description | Central field bears the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) inscribed in multiple lines of angular Kufic script within a double-line inner circle. The primary legend reads the kalima in three horizontal registers across the central medallion, with an additional line below naming the Banijurid ruler Ahmad b. Muhammad. An inner marginal band and an outer marginal legend encircle the central field, carrying Quranic verses or mint and date formulae in Kufic script. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the rim, characteristic of hand-struck Abbasid-period provincial dirhams. |
