| Obverse description | Central field enclosed within a beaded inner circle bears the Shahada in multiple lines of bold Kufic Arabic script: 'La ilaha illa Allah / wahdahu la sharika lahu' (There is no god but God, alone, without partner). The legend is arranged in four or five horizontal lines filling the central roundel. A secondary marginal legend in Kufic script runs around the outer border between the inner and outer beaded circles, containing additional religious or attributive phrases. The flan is irregular and slightly crude, characteristic of provincial Saffarid hammered silver coinage. |
