The Burid dynasty was in its death throes by 1153 — Mu'in ad-Din Unur, the capable atabeg who had held Damascus together and famously negotiated with the Crusaders during the failed 1148 siege of the city, had died the previous year. What remained was a weakened court that fell to Nur ad-Din Zengi before the year was out. Coins struck in this terminal phase of Burid authority are among the most historically compressed issues in Islamic numismatics.
The "Abaq Dimashq" attribution identifies the mint as Damascus under the last Burid ruler, Abaq.
