Wallachia's earliest coinage emerged in the 1360s under Vladislav I (Vlaicu), who established the mint partly to assert political independence from Hungarian suzerainty — coins being one of the clearest signals a ruler could send about autonomous governance. The joint attribution to Radu I places this piece in the brief co-regency period, a transitional arrangement documented in Wallachian sources before Radu assumed sole rule. MBR#34 represents a relatively tight typological classification within a series where die cutting was inconsistent and flan preparation crude, making clean strikes genuinely uncommon.
