| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features a rectangular cartouche containing multi-line Arabic religious and honorific legend in angular, archaic script. Surrounding the cartouche, additional marginal Arabic inscriptions occupy the border area of the flan. The die-work is characteristic of late Hormuz-period provincial hammered coinage, with irregular flan shape and somewhat worn relief typical of debased gold issues of the Emirate of Qalhati. |

Turanshah III ruled Hormuz — the island entrepôt controlling the entrance to the Persian Gulf — at the precise moment the Portuguese Estado da India was consolidating its stranglehold over Gulf trade. By 1524, Hormuz had been a Portuguese tributary state for over a decade, paying annual tribute following Afonso de Albuquerque's intervention in dynastic politics there in 1515. The debased gold fabric here is almost certainly not coincidental: tributary obligations drained the emirate's bullion reserves steadily throughout this period.
Album 1943 is among the rarer Hormuzian dinar attributions, with Turanshah III's issues appearing infrequently in trade.
