Sultanshah's rule over Kerman was contested almost from the start — he seized power following the death of his father Qawurd, the founder of the Seljuk branch that controlled the region, but faced persistent dynastic pressure from rival claimants within the same family. Gold dinars of this precise moment in Kermani Seljuk history are rare survivals, issued from Bardasir, the provincial capital, during a reign that lasted only a few years before Sultanshah was displaced.
