| Aanvullende informatie |
Alp Arslan's reign reached its defining moment just four years after this dinar was struck at al-Basra, when his forces annihilated the Byzantine army at Manzikert in 1071 and captured Emperor Romanos IV Diogenes — the single engagement that opened Anatolia to Turkic settlement. The Basra mint had been a prestige production center since Abbasid times, and Seljuq issues from it carry that administrative weight.
Album 1679.1 distinguishes this subtype within the broader Alp Arslan coinage by mint and formula specifics. Basra-mint Seljuq gold of this period is considerably scarcer than contemporary Nishapur or Isfahan output.
