Mahmud II's reign from 1808 to 1839 was defined by violent internal reform — the destruction of the Janissary Corps in 1826, the so-called "Auspicious Incident," fundamentally restructured Ottoman military and fiscal administration. Coinage issued from Hamadan, a Persian-region mint under intermittent Ottoman control, reflects the contested sovereignty over northwestern territories during this period.
The AH 1122 date warrants scrutiny against Mahmud II's actual reign dates; if accurate, the attribution to Mahmud II requires verification against a possible earlier sultan of the same name.
