| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field displays a multi-line Arabic Kufic inscription in five horizontal lines, incorporating the name of Allah, the Prophet Muhammad, the honorific title 'Amir Sayf al-Dawla', and the name Mahmud. The inner inscription is surrounded by a circular marginal legend in Kufic script recording the mint name Nishapur (Naysabur) and the date of striking expressed in full Arabic words as the year 384 AH (994 CE). An outer beaded border frames the entire design. The bold, angular Kufic lettering is consistent with the coinage tradition of the early Ghaznavid period. The reverse layout closely follows the Samanid epigraphic dinar format, reflecting the transitional political context of Mahmud's early rule. |
