Tarim is a city in the Hadhramaut valley of eastern Yemen, historically one of the most significant centers of Islamic scholarship in the Arabian Peninsula. Whether this platinum dinar was struck as a genuine local issue or as a presentation piece for collectors is a question the cataloging record does not convincingly resolve — X# classification in the World Coin catalog places it squarely in the "unusual and fantastical" category, meaning Krause himself treated it with skepticism. Platinum was not a monetary metal in any Yemenite tradition.
