Obverse description Full-length frontal effigy of King Kanishka I standing, wearing elaborate Kushan royal dress comprising a long belted tunic, trousers, and boots, with flames emanating from his shoulders as a divine attribute. The king holds a long spear or sceptre in his left hand and extends his right hand over a small altar or fire altar at lower left. He wears a distinctive tall crown or helmet. The Bactrian legend ÞAO NANO ÞAO KANHÞKI KOÞANO (King of Kings, Kanishka the Kushan) runs around the periphery in cursive Bactrian script.
