| 正面描述 | Hammered gold dinar struck at Madinat al-Salam (Baghdad) in AH 362. The central field contains five horizontal lines of Kufic Arabic inscription arranged within a plain inner circle, surmounted by a small pellet at the apex. The central legends proclaim the shahada and cite the ruler's laqab 'Izz al-Dawla' together with his kunya 'Abu Mansur'. A circular marginal legend runs around the inner field, separated by a raised linear border, giving the mint name and full date in words. The entire design is purely epigraphic, devoid of figural imagery, consistent with Abbasid-era Islamic monetary tradition. |

The Buyid amir Izz al-Dawla Bakhtiyar held Baghdad — Madinat al-Salam, the City of Peace — but held it poorly. His reign was marked by chronic insolvency, mutinous troops, and the steady erosion of his authority against both his own cousins and the Hamdanids. Gold dinars struck in his name from the Abbasid capital carry a particular irony: the Buyids maintained the fiction of Abbasid caliphal legitimacy on their coinage even as they kept the caliph a ceremonial prisoner. Bakhtiyar was killed by his cousin Adud al-Dawla in 978, just five years after this piece was struck.
