Reverse description Reverse of this hammered gold dinar presents five horizontal lines of Kufic Arabic script in the central field, enclosed within a raised circular border and surmounted by a small pellet. The central inscriptions open with 'لله' at the top, followed by the Prophetic mission formula, then the honorific titles of the Buyid amir repeated in mirror symmetry to the obverse. A continuous marginal legend, separated from the central field by a linear border, carries the Quranic verse from Surat al-Tawba (9:33) attesting to the Prophet's mission. The die work reflects the characteristic bold, angular Kufic calligraphic style of the mid-fourth-century AH Buyid mint production.
