Obverse description Hammered gold dinar with an irregular flan, struck at Nishapur in AH 391. The central field contains a multi-line Kufic Arabic inscription arranged in four horizontal lines reading the shahada: 'There is no god but God alone, He has no partner.' A circular marginal legend surrounds the central field, recording the mint name, denomination, and regnal year in the formula 'Bismillah, this dinar was struck at Nishapur in the year three hundred and ninety-one.' The script is angular Kufic throughout, with well-spaced lettering characteristic of late Samanid gold coinage.
