Issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the Iraqi Army, founded in 1921 under the British Mandate. The coin was produced while Iraq was navigating the aftermath of the Ba'ath Party's consolidation of power following the 1968 coup — a period when commemorative silver issues served the regime's broader project of constructing national institutional legitimacy.
KM#133 is not a rare type, but surviving examples in genuinely uncirculated condition are less common than mintage figures suggest, likely due to inconsistent storage practices in the region during the 1970s.
