| Additional information |
Issued to mark the 1400th anniversary of the Hijra calendar, this coin was struck during the opening months of the Iran-Iraq War — Saddam Hussein's forces had crossed the border in September 1980. The commemorative program continued regardless, a sign of how carefully the Ba'athist government managed its public image even under wartime conditions.
Mintage was low and distribution largely ceremonial.
