Additional information

The Hamadan Sultanate was a branch of the Seljuk dynasty controlling western Persia during a period of severe fragmentation, with various atabegs and regional governors asserting autonomy as the main Seljuk line weakened. Arslan Shah II ruled amid constant pressure from the Eldiguzids of Azerbaijan, who functionally controlled his court and effectively reduced the sultanate to a client state well before its collapse.

Pale gold issues of this type reflect declining fineness — a pattern documented across Seljuk successor mints in the mid-twelfth century as revenues contracted and bullion sources became unreliable.
