| 裏面の説明 | The denomination numeral 1 surmounted by the Serbian royal crown with a cross at its apex occupies the upper central field, with the Cyrillic inscription ДИНАР (Dinar) immediately below and the date 1897 beneath that. The central device is flanked by a wreath composed of an olive branch to the left and an oak branch to the right, tied at the base with a decorative ribbon bow. The entire design is contained within a beaded inner border. |

Serbia's 1897 dinar was struck at the Paris Mint under a monetary framework aligned with the Latin Monetary Union, to which Serbia was an associate member — not a full signatory, but close enough that its silver coins circulated alongside French, Italian, and Belgian issues across Mediterranean trade routes. The timing matters: King Aleksandar I was only nineteen that year, ruling under increasingly unstable conditions following his father Milan's abdication in 1889.
Aleksandar would be assassinated in 1903, along with Queen Draga, by a group of army officers who threw the bodies from the palace window. The Obrenović dynasty died with him, and coin production priorities shifted abruptly to the incoming Karađorđević line.
