Obverse description Central field occupied by four lines of bold raised Arabic Naskhi script within a plain inner circle, the legends presenting the ruler's titles and Quranic formulae in the characteristic Ayyubid epigraphic style. The inner circle is bordered by a rope-pattern or beaded marginal band, beyond which a further ring of Arabic legend runs along the outer periphery of the flan. The coin is struck on an irregular, slightly wavy flan typical of hammered Ayyubid gold dinars of the mid-13th century. The relief of the inscriptions is high and well-defined, indicating a freshly cut die. Small pellet ornaments separate the lines of text within the central panel.
