| Reverse description | Aniconic reverse following the standard Fatimid concentric-band layout, composed entirely of Arabic inscriptions in relief. The central roundel contains the word 'Ali' in bold Kufic script, a characteristic Ismaili Shia devotional element. Surrounding the central field, concentric circular bands bear the Shahada and the mint-date formula, the latter recording the striking of this dinar at Misr in the year 540 AH. The outermost marginal band carries additional religious legend, all framed by plain concentric raised lines consistent with Fatimid hammered gold coinage of the mid-sixth century AH. |
