Beschrijving voorzijde Typical Abbasid-style epigraphic dinar composition with multiple lines of Arabic Kufic script arranged concentrically within the central field. The inner field contains the Islamic profession of faith (shahada) and Quranic text in bold Kufic characters disposed across five lines. A circular marginal legend in Arabic script surrounds the central inscription, separated by a plain inner border. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, characteristic of hammered Islamic gold coinage of the period.

Aanvullende informatie

The Sajid dynasty ruled Azerbaijan as semi-autonomous governors under Abbasid suzerainty, and al-Fath b. al-Afshin represents one of its later rulers during a period when central Abbasid authority was rapidly fragmenting. Dinars of this ruler are among the rarer Sajid issues — the dynasty was extinguished by 929, just a year after this coin was struck, when the Musafirid and subsequently Sallarid powers reshaped control over the region. Ardabil served as the principal Sajid mint and administrative center throughout the dynasty's existence.
