Al-Ashraf Musa II ruled Egypt for less than two years, a minor placed on the throne by Ayyubid amirs who needed a compliant figurehead while factional power struggles played out beneath him. By 1252 those same amirs had deposed him. Gold dinars struck at al-Qahira under his name are consequently rare — the mint simply did not operate long enough under this nominal reign to produce significant volume.
This issue falls in the final chapter of Ayyubid Egypt, just years before the Bahri Mamluks consolidated permanent control following the chaos of the Seventh Crusade and the murder of Turanshah in 1250.
