| Additional information |
Abu Zayd Abd al-Rahman was one of the later Marinid sultans ruling from Fez during a period of severe dynastic fragmentation, when the Wattasid viziers were already beginning their long encroachment on Marinid authority. Gold dinar production under these later rulers was intermittent and closely tied to control of trans-Saharan trade routes — when that control slipped, so did the coinage. The A#537 attribution places this within a well-documented but sparsely surviving series.
