| Descrição do anverso | Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic inscription set within a plain rectangular frame, the text arranged in five or six horizontal registers bearing the religious formula and the ruler's titulature. A decorative foliate or geometric border runs along the inner edge of the frame. The outer marginal legend, rendered in cursive Arabic script, encircles the central panel and carries additional pious or regnal phrases. The entire design is struck on an irregular flan characteristic of hammered gold coinage, with the field showing the slightly uneven surfaces typical of medieval North African mint production. |

The border framing the central panel is decorated with a continuous foliate or interlaced ornamental band. A circumferential marginal inscription in Arabic script surrounds the frame, likely recording the mint name, date, or additional dynastic epithets. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped at the edges, consistent with hand-struck gold dinars of the Zayyanid period, and the relief of the lettering is bold and well-executed throughout. |

The Zayyanid sultans of Tlemcen spent much of the early sixteenth century caught between the competing pressures of the Sa'adian dynasty pushing from Morocco and Ottoman expansion from the east. By 1542, Ahmad III was operating as little more than a tributary client of the Ottomans, who had seized Tlemcen the previous decade before briefly restoring Zayyanid nominal rule. Gold dinars from this phase of the dynasty's existence are rare — the mint's output was constrained, the political situation was unstable, and the dynasty would be extinguished entirely by 1554.
