Obverse description Hammered gold dinar of irregular round flan, struck at Madinat al-Salam (Baghdad) in AH 435 (1044 CE). The central field contains six lines of Kufic Arabic script presenting the Shahada, the title of the Abbasid caliph al-Qadir Billah, and the Buyid amir Abu Kalijar with his honorific title Malik al-Muluk (King of Kings). An inner marginal band carries the mint and date formula reading 'In the name of God, this dinar was struck in Madinat al-Salam in the year four hundred and thirty-five.' The outer margin bears the Quranic verse of Surah al-Tawba (9:33) in a continuous circular legend. The legends are rendered in clear, well-spaced Kufic script typical of Buyid gold coinage.
