Obverse description Central square field densely filled with multiple lines of Maghribi Arabic calligraphy in relief, containing religious formulae and the ruler's name and titles. The square is framed by a single ruled border, beyond which a circular marginal legend in Arabic script runs around the inner periphery. The outermost border is formed by a dotted or beaded circle. The hammered flan exhibits the characteristic irregular surface and slightly uneven strike typical of medieval North African gold coinage.
